This is my journey as I learn how to use ICT Tools which I will use in my teaching one day.

Mobile Phone Wiki
I really enjoyed participating in this Wiki. I am a fan of Edward de Bono and liked the Six Thinking Hats - what a great thinking routine to teach in school. I believe you can align De Bono's six hats with Cognitive Digital Taxonomy. This is the link we used to view De Bono's thinking routine: http://www.kurwongbss.eq.edu.au/thinking/Hats/hats.htm
This routine was great to use in the wiki because it was leading the participants from basic knowledge, which may have contained negative thoughts up through the scaffolding towards the blue hat. Constructivism is an element here because as the learner moves through the hats he/she gains more understanding about the subject. Cognitivism is an element here because as we participate in the wiki aren't we deciding what's going in and out of that memory and what are the most important thoughts as we work our way through the hats.
Connectivism is here because of all these different opinions changing our knowledge. I struggle to show any elements of Behaviourism here unless you can apply it to the white hat which is your lower thinking area-focus on facts, telling us what you know.
As a parent I would not let my son take his mobile phone into the classroom because it would be a temptation to check messages and cause disruptions. However, after participating in the Wiki I have changed my mind and would consider it to be used with caution and care. I believe the schools would have to starting training people to think of it as an educational tool not just a social tool. I only see the benefit in participating in this Wiki, drawbacks and issues would be if you actually had the task of trying to win schools and parents over with the idea.
More knowledge gained..............Simone

My partner Nadine and I posted our thoughts on separate tables for this reading and spoke to each other over the phone as well for this activity. I felt I was weak in my views on the PMI Table as I did not link all of them to a teaching environment. Also, I did not collaborate enough with Nadine. However I see the benefits of using this routine as it would support greater thinking in breaking down a task into simpler parts, especially if the task seems overwhelming, but it would also push a student to consider other ideas, deal with the weaknesses and the problems as well. See below link to view our tables.

Use in a teaching context:
Great! Expert jigsaw strategy was used in this activity along with PMI scaffold and this would be very useful technique in a classroom as it is a cooperative learning. A teacher would have to be careful with the diverse needs of the students in the group work as a more dominant student may overpower the shyer one or the bright student will get bored and the slower one will not keep up to the work. Constructivism is here as the student has their own ideas and brings them into the group to collaborate and they are refined. Each student part is important to bringing the big picture together in the task. Cognitivism would be seen as the students work through their own work, team up and then return to the group work for the final presentation - learning is being mapped. Also, at the beginning they are working through their sensory and working memory, but hopefully by the end the final presentation embeds some information into the long term memory and they receive intrinsic learning. Connectivism is here because we don't know everything and we can always learn from someone or something else.

Blog reflections as a journal
![]() |
| Microsoft Office 2011 |
By reviewing my blog and my fellow travellers' blog we are in a cooperative of learning. I may see something in their blog of ideas/learning that I did not realise or understand which pushes me forward in my thinking. This lesson also would be applied to my own learners as a teacher - stand to the side and let them learn from each other. Connectivism is an element here as I don't know everything and can look at other blogs to learn more. Is Cognitivism here as well because my reflections map my learning journey? Behaviourism - this is a long shot but because I keep returning to the blog and reflecting am I learning a learning behaviour? Diversity is still supported as we work our way through different activities with support from the forum along the way - everyone works to their learning speed. As we continue to keep posting to the blog we become more confident in our skills with the creating links, inserting images/video links and researching on the internet. The learning journey continues onwards and upwards.

Felder and Solomon questionnaire - Learning Styles
![]() |
| Microsoft Office 2011 |
After completing the Felder and Solomon questionnaire provided in my course activities I have discovered that I am slightly reflective in my learning, but mostly head towards sensory style. I show some degree of visual learning style, but I really take off towards sequential. I like facts and written notes, but I like my study time to really take it all in - so no matter how it is presented I will go quietly away to re-asorb it and think about it some more.
In a class of 25 students it would be important to cater for all these needs through verbal presentation with digital technology, written notes, plus class and small group discussions. Finally a homework sheet would allow reflection to cater to those who need quiet thought, but it is also a way of assessing your training.
ICT knowledge would allow me to bring in a more active, involved style of learning to a class which can better cater to all styles of learning needs.
My profiling questions would have to be of a mixed nature, similar to those of Felder and Solomon to filter out the different styles of learners in the classroom.
ICT's allows you to be more effective in supporting differences, because it can cater to so many needs in one effective tool.
I am a digital immigrant and my 14 year old son is a digital native. He needs information quickly and from a variety of forms to maintain his interest. He loves the laptop the school has brought in and homework isn't such an issue - he is engaged. I am slower on the uptake - don't really want Facebook, can't be bothered with an IPOD which holds 2000 songs, in fact I am quite happy with my 200 song IPOD. I really need to change my attitude and embrace technology with a big hug. The research is there - keep up with technology or just get left behind. I've made a decision and know where I am going - I am jumping on that digital technology rollercoaster ride!
Finally, I agree with Siemens learning theory because it is not enough anymore just to have good sound knowledge and be content with that - you also need to be to think outside the square to keep up and learn more. As a teacher we need to show students how to do this by making them use the tools of technology to go to the next level of thinking.
